Cobaw Ridge
Cobaw is a few kms up an easy accessible dirt road with a nice little cellar door with 5 wines on tasting. We started the tasting with a classy, complex and harmonious Chardonnay, then we moved onto the reds. First was their Pinot, again excellent quality, and it is from here that if you are a wine traveller looking for something different then you will be glad that you visited Cobaw ridge. The next three wines were a Syrah, a Lagrein and thirdly a blend of the two together. Lagrein is Italian red grape variety from north east of Italy and is very hard to find in Australia compared with some of the more well known Italian varieties. One might even say rare. I have not tried many Lagrein, so is Cobaw Ridge Lagrein a true representation of the variety? I don’t know. In fact I don’t really care. This wine stands on its own two feet as being an excellent wine, well balanced and has different yet very pleasing Characteristics to the reds most people drink.
Across the board all wines were excellent including the Syrah and the Syrah/Lagrein blend. Looking for some quality wines with a difference and good friendly service then visit Cobaw Ridge.
