McIvor Estate
What a great little winery. The cellar door looks down to the vines with the rolling hills be speckled with granite boulders in the distance. Apart from the fabulous wines McIvor also makes great olive oil in several styles and also balsamic vinegar and a caramelised balsamic vinegar, all of which are available for you to sample.
We visited on a day when they had a Spanish festival on and we booked in for their lunch. Rather than taste the wines in the cellar door, they were brought to us at our table outside, while we listened to the live Spanish band. Our host was great, bringing us our first wine, a delicious Marsanne Roussanne. About eight wines are available for tasting and early into the tasting we got two great surprises. McIvor produces two excellent Italian wine styles in a Sangiovese and a Nebbiolo. These two great wines are both drinking beautifully now and added an extra string to the bow of the consistently good wines that are coming out of McIvor Estate. We finished with a tour of the vineyard with Cynthia, one of the owners who picked grapes off the vines for us to eat so that we could taste the differences in the various varieties that they grow.
A great cellar door with a point of difference in the two Italian wines make this winery cellar door a must see.
