Yabby Lake
If you don’t have your eyes peeled you are likely to miss the sign for this winery but don’t let that put you off just keep going along the gravel road. Likewise don’t scamper back to the car once you see the ugly outside appearance of this cellar door and café as you approach. Inside is a modern oasis with comfy couches around a fireplace, interesting art work on the walls and a really classy fit out that just begs you to relax and unwind. The café has a very appealing menu with the kids not forgotten either.
As it so happened, it was obvious that the person next to me while I tasted these wines was in hospitality. We chatted about the wines and the super informed cellar door manager answered all our questions. He was clever enough to tone it down to the couple near by whose wine knowledge was not so in depth, making them feel just as comfortable. Yabby Lake has an excellent number of wines to sample with several ranges as well as wines from their Heathcote vineyard that make some excellent Shiraz. There was many quality wines including some nice Pinot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
A spot of lunch, good wines, excellent staff with a smart interior, makes Yabby Lake a must see.

try and hide behind a wine barrel so that you get locked in overnight here! It’d be a good excuse to gorge yourself on some of the best examples of modern winemaking. Their chardonnnay is my stalwart for those people who ‘hate chardonnay’ and it hasnt failed me yet! Oh and their pinot is to die for too!!
